Corinne:

I was just surfing the web and decided to check out a few family forums of interest, when I came across your posting from about a year ago. This may be old news to you now, but just in case it’s not: Romain was my g-g-grandfather through his son Adam Paul.Romain was born out of wedlock to Marie Manon Berthelot, probably in 1841 (as inferred from his listed age at baptism in 1849 as seen in the published Baton Rouge Diocese Catholic Church Records book—as I don’t have it here with me as I write, I’m going by memory). His father has never been identified—he took his surname from his mother (and yes, sometimes his mother Marie Manon is confused with her sister Marie Scholastic). Now, Marie Manon evidently marries (later?) a Francois Poche. Finally, indeed Romain was in the 18th LA Infantry, and I write about that (and correct at least one mistake that misidentified him in published work) in a chapter from my genealogy “sequel,” that I hope to get out in the next few months.
