Many spellings of Bertol, Maybe Bartol

Hello,
I'm researching my family name, BARTOL. I have found many variations of the spellings. Does anyone known of a connection with Bertol? The family was from Trieste, Italy.
My grandfather was Rudolph (Rodolfo), His father was John (Giovanni). Thanks for any help.
