Bertram ofGrouville,Jersey
The book "An Amorial of Jersey" describes, on page 44, Bertram of Grouville and gives a family tree (Pedigree)starting with John Bertram, but no date (probably around 1570) It does, however, imply that the family lived there since Elizabethan times. A drawing of the Bertram of Grouville coat of arms is displayed which is identical to the Bertram of Bothal coat of arms (Northumberland). "Or, an Orle azure" which is"A gold shield with a blue orle".
The Bertram of Bothal family line became extinct in 1349 when the daughter married into the Ogle family and the Bothal property passed into the Ogle family.
Can anyone explain how the Bothal arms ended up in Jersey ?
