Bertrand + Neveu, + Romain + Simmons - not McKay

Greetings to all Bertrand researchers.I have found out a lot these few weeks, many thanks to so many who have come before me.I am currently trying to tie David Bertrand into a Jean Bertrand line in the Tanguay Index.David m. Margaret Simmons about 1845.One of his son's Zotique was actually my ggpa ( I thought, and 1901/1911 Census report him as) Isaac. Many Geneanet sites show the three of them and more.And the Tanguay line can be followed and continued down to Francois m. Monique Neveu 9 Nov, 1812.Two children reported so far, Theophile and Caroline.I hope there are more.

Here's the thing.This David (57) lives next to this Theophile (59) (m. Merciline Malo) on the 1881 Census of Mansfield & Pontefract (LDS site, collectionscanada site). There is Clement (62)(m. Delphine Leclerc) living at one end of town, and Francois(91)(widower) living with William Romain(59)(m. Sophie Desrosiers, wrong ages but children are correct) at the other end of town. On 1891 Census Delphine, widow of Clement lives next to David. On 1901 Census Merciline, widow of Theophile lives next to David (Bartrand). And 1911 Census, David senior (widower) lives with son David (m. Lucie Aubry) and grandson David. This David seems to like to keep family close - the questions are: are they dad or uncle, brothers or cousins? Why is Francois living with Romains? Clement and David both show dead ends on several geneanet sites. But they had to have a papa, right? Anyone with info to flesh out this mystery, or having an interest in it is welcome to join in. P.S. I titled this not McKay to correct what I am sure is an oversite by one Cindy way back in 2001. She stated David m. Ann McKay, she died, then he married Marg Simmons.This David has been clearly identified as David jr. who remarried Lucie Aubry and is with David sr. on 1911 Census. I believe Cindy misread the marriage data she quoted in her post.
