Boshears/Beshers Question
Anyone have information and/or descendants of these families?
? 7-1. Brasil (Basil) Brashears Sr, b. 1760-70 (age 70-80 in 1840, Lawrence Co,
TN); my guess is that he was born c1765; m.1. _____; m.2. _____, b. 1780-90 (50-60 in
1840 Lawrence). I believe (cannot prove) that Basil was s/o Middleton Brashears, s/o
Basil Brashear(s) and Anne Belt, of Prince George’s Co, MD, Orange/Guilford Co, NC, and
Spartanburg Co, SC.
Basil Brashears Sr, b. c1765; John Brashears Sr, b. 1767; Henry Breshears Sr, b.
1769, along with some of their nephews, left South Carolina about 1810 and migrated to
east-central Tennessee. This was a familiar migration route for men moving west at the
time new land was “opening” for settlement, and they encountered some of their distant
relatives in Tennessee.
1820 Census of White County, TN (p.369):
Basil Basher, age 46+, b. bef. 1774. This is Basil, b. c1765 [Basil is 70-80 in 1840
Lawrence Co, TN; b. 1760-70]
wife, 26-45, b. 1775-1794 [50-60 in 1840, b. 1780-1790]
fem, 10-15, b. 1805-1810
male, 0-10, b. 1810-1820
male, 0-10, b. 1810-1820
fem. 0-10, b. 1810-1820
fem. 0-10, b. 1810-1820
Probable second family of Basil Brashear Sr:
8-6. Thomas Brashers, b. c1806, NC, d. c1867, Tishomingo Co, MS; m. 1833, Mary
Emily “Polly” Sullivan/Sullivant, b. NC, c1810, d/o Samuel West Sullivan and
his first wife, Sarah Bell. Lawrence Co, TN Marriage Bond, 12 Jan 1833.
Bondsmen: Basil Brashers Sr and Thomas Brashers. (1840 Census, Wayne Co,
TN: Thos Boshears (01001-10001). Could "Polly" be named Mary Emily? Thomas
Boshears, b. NC c1806, and Emily, b. NC, c1810, are hh #426, p.118, Southern
Dist, 1850 Tishomingo Co, MS Census, with seven children; 1860 census,
Tishomingo Co, MS, with six. They apparently stayed in Mississippi when all the
"cousins" moved to Obion Co, TN. Thomas's will dated Jan 1867, Tishomingo Co,
MS.
9-1.John H. Boshears, b. TN, c1837 (13 in 1850; 24 & “at home” in 1860). John
?Henry Boshears?
9-2. Sarah A. Boshears, b. TN, c1840 (10 in 1850; not in 1860; may have married)
9-3. ?Rena C. Boshears, b. TN, c1842 (18 in 1860). ?Caroline Boshears?
9-4. Zilpha Jane Boshears, b. TN or MS, c1844 (16 in 1860)
9-5. James K.P. Boshears, b. MS, c1846 (14 in 1860)

8-7. *Basil Brashear Jr, b. c1808, d. in Civil War. Basil Sr and Basil Jr, both securities
of Peter Brashers when he pleaded guilty of assault and battery, Oct 1830, and
was fined $2.50 (Lawrence Co, TN, Minutes of the Court, 1828-1834, p.216, 219).
We had previously thought this Basil was s/o Berry Boshears, but his service
record in the National Archives says he was Basil Brashear Jr. He lived for a time
in Tishomingo Co, MS; then in the western edge of Pulaski Co, AR, where one of
his daughters was married in his house.

Marriage Bond, 9 Feb 1830, bondsmen: Peter [X] Brasher and Basil [X] Brasher.
Witness: Amos Buchanan; fee not paid. Peter, b. c1810, and Rebecca, b. c1810,
are hh #522, p.39, 1850 Tishomingo Co, MS Census with six children; Peter
Beshear and Rebecca, both 48, are #324-503, 1860 McNairy Co, TN. Peter and
Rebecca, both 68, are mother and father in household of George Bashear in 1880
Obion Co, TN.

9-4. William Henry Boshers, b. TN, c1840 (10 in 1850; Wm H., age 20 in 1860,
McNairy Co, TN). The 1870 census of McNairy Co, TN, has a Henry
Boshear, 26, with wife, Marantha, 24; no ch. Someone, not the census-
taker, has written William above the name.
9-5. Tabitha Boshers, b. MS, c1847 (3 in 1850, 13 in 1860)
9-6. George W. Boshers, b. MS, c1849 (1 in 1850, 10 in 1860; 24 in 1870, Obion
