I see you're still trying to find Aura or Orra Besse or Bessey or whatever.I tried again but, continue to come up empty on that one.You may have to try a search in the Mass archives. She and Lemuel both show as born in MA in the 1850 & 1860 Census reports.
Possibly yiou already know this info but, I thought it was interesting.Lemuel is shown to be blind in the 1850 census and both are shown to be paupers in the 1860 census. In 1860 they are living with son John and his wife Lucretia and their child, Charles. In 1870, John & Lucretia are in York, Carroll County, IL with their children, Charles, Cora & Emma.couldn't find any other info on Lemuel JR. or on Amanda or Aura (incidentally, they show as Martha & Silvia in the 1850 census.Lemuel shows as being in Waterburty, VT in the 1820 & 1830 census too.Don't know why the children are born in NY - do you?
Aura sure is a mystery. It may be Lemuel who shows as a private and waiter to General Bissellin the war of 1812
There are over 20 Lemuel Brown marriages listed in Mass in the late 1700's & early 1800's but, none to a Bessey.I did find my ancester, Ephraim Bessey who married Rebecca Manter in MA in 1794. And his sister Lucy Besse who married Prince Manter in 1796.Now I know where the Prince Manter Besseys got their name from - one of my uncles was Prince Manter Bessey and he hated the name.
Good luck on your continuing search for Orra Besse.
