Hi Frank,
Yes, I agree with you one should look at the writing carefully.....I do have a copy of that Census and I have wondered if those were the number (2)....sometimes you hate to make a guess....the ones (1) do seem to be more perferectly straight.Anyway, I have another document that tells me that my Hiram Nelson Bewley was in Kinderhook, Pike County, during the 1860 Census, and that is a document from his Civil War Pension File. So, I do tend to lean towards that fact that the Nelson Bewley in the home of William Bailey in Kinderhook Township, Pike County, IL on June 25, 1860; page 15; line 13; home dwelling 88/88, is my Hiram Nelson Bewley......
I also have copy of the census for Hiram Nelson Bewleyin Artesia Township, Iroqouis Co. IL on June 3, 1880.Page No. 3, Line11 Sup. Dist. 5; En. Dist 120.Home Dwelling No. 21-22.
This is also confirmed by his Civil War Document.
So, thanks for you confirmation on what the numbers were in the 1860 Census. It helps to have someone else confirm...what I kind of thought already, but was sure if it was a (2) or not.Thank you very much for your help.
Sincerley,
Cathi Gross
