Re: bewleys of cumberland

I'm writing on behalf of a relative whose maiden name was Bewley. We are researching her tree and have worked our way back to her g.g. grandfather Joseph Bewley born in either 1825 or 1832 at Skinburness, Holme Cultrum to a Mary Bewley who was 'a single woman'. On Joseph's second marriage certificate it records his father as George Bewley but we aren't sure whether it is his father or his grandfather. We have researched a George who married a Jane Bowman and feel sure there is a link with him because two of Joseph's children have been given Bowman as a middle name.He would have been Joseph's gr.father.
We have also found another Joseph born 1781 who was the illeg. son of the same George Bewley and a Jane Wilson.This Joseph had a daughter called Mary who could be our Joseph's mother.
I hope this message is clear. As you can see it's rather a tangled web!Any ideas?
