Re: Bianchetta/Cavaletto Family in Illinois
Dear Bianchetta/ Cavaletto Family,
I am very glad you are interested in the family lineage and I am sure your relatives too will be happy to receive further info on the Cavaletto family.
The documentation I have searched goes back 400 years, unfortunately it is all in Italian so I guess I'd rather give you a summary of the main events:
15th centuryThe family comes from the republic of Venice where many of its members have joined the military forces of that period (still today In Venice, there’s a quite renowned hotel that holds the family name). At a certain point a part of the family moved to Piedmont in the Canavesean area near Rivarolo (Salassa and Vesignano).
1614The family has been given a heraldry blazon (I am still trying to work out the reason of this award whether that's for Military reasons (we have a long military tradition) or as a noble title. If you wish to view the family blazon you can visit www.cavaletto.org (unfortunately the site is still under construction infect it only contains the family Blazon. The family motto is: Parens legibus – Law abiding
1711the family has commissioned a picture that manifests the devotion to saint Aventino and the Black Virgin of Oropa. We even have a family flag depicting the saint, protector of the family and he also protector from headaches. In the church of Vesignano you can still find that very picture.
Around 1800 Don Michele Cavaletto (a priest) has donated a household to the Church of the Village of Vesignano (Near Turin) becoming very active in the community (still today we gather in Vesignano on the 2nd of February to commemorate the family Saint,Saint Aventino and every year the new prior (any of the family member can enlist to become the prior for a year time) has to organize the event.
These are the most interesting information as far as I am concerned, and I hope you will enjoy reading this message.
That is it for now, I look forward to hearing further from you, ciao Alfredo Cavaletto
