New York Bigelows

By Madeline Bigelow June 14, 2002 at 03:11:38

Dear New York Bigelows:

For years I've been trying to trace the family of my paternal grandfather, Thomas Bigelow.Recently, thanks to the help of someone I met in the Geneology Chat Room, I was able to locate him in the New York 1900 Census, Kings County, Borough of Brooklyn.Maybe now someone out there may be able to provide me with further information with respect to any other decendants, cousins and/or relatives of my paternal family, since my father lost all contact with them since he was about 5-6 yrs. old.Unfortunately my father died in 1994 at the age of 67 without ever locating or meeting his paternal family.

According to the Census my great grandfather (also named Thomas Bigelow) was a widower with three sons.He was born in May 1842, his father was born in Ireland and his mother was born in France. His wife was registered as being from Ireland. His sons were:

1. John D or O Bigelow, born in N.Y. on July 1874.
2. Thomas Bigelow, born in N.Y. on April 1891 (my grandfather).
3. William Bigelow, Born in N,Y. on August 1893.

On 08/27/24, my grandfather married my grandmother (Flora Hanna) in N.Y., Kings County, Borough of Brooklyn.Marriage Certificate No. 27228

On 06/22/27, my father (Thomas L. Bigelow) was born at The Brooklyn Hospital (Birth Record No. 26066).At the time their address was 540 Willoughby Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y.My grandfather's occupation was registered as being a driver and was he was 36 yrs old.My grandmother was registered as being a housewife and was 23 yrs. old.

On 07/19/38, in Queens County, N.Y., my grandmother had the marriage annuled for reasons unknown (page was torn out of the final decree).

It is believed that maybe my grandfather had a daughter by the name of Margaret from a previous marriage. This has not been able to be confirmed. Also we believe that my grandfather died sometime in the 1950's.

If any of this data sounds familiar to a N.Y. Bigelow, please contact me so we can compare notes.Who knows, we may be related.I know that I must have some distant relatives out here.

I can be reached via e-mail at:[email protected]

Thank you.

Madeline Bigelow
