Re: Meaning of Billings
My sister spent some time researching the Billinger family tree and came across someone who researched the name Billing. (Belling, Bellinger, Billings Bellinge all derivatives or the same name).
His version is that the name originates from Danish where one of the old Gods was Belem and the worshippers lived in the area now known as Billund. The 'tribe' travelled to Germany and from there to England where one group travelled to the Northampton area where there is a number of references to Billing or similar names. The other group travelled North to Lancashire. At some point one of them moved to Somerset where my branch of the family originate.
Hope this helps.
