Jesse F. Billingsley was my great-great grandfather.I will be happy to share the information I have found. My father received a family history several years ago which my mother and I have been trying to research and validate (my mother has done most of the work).
You can also find information on the following website:
www.tsha.utexas.edu
Jesse F. Billingsley b. Oct 10, 1810
d. Oct 1, 1880m. Jan 15, 1947 to Eliza Ann Wimers b. 1825 d. Jan 24, 1902
children:
Jeptha P. Billingsley b. Oct 29, 1848
Francis Marion Billingsley b. Jul 27, 1850 (my great grandfather)
Miriam Ellen Billingsley b. Nov 23, 1852
He was a descendent of:
1. Francis b. 1620
2. John b. 1647
3. William b. 1670
4. William Jr. b. 1691
5. James b. 1726
6. Samuel b. 1747
7. Jeptha b. 1780
Jesse is mentioned in several books on Texas history, including "Coronados Children" by Fank Dobie. He is credited with coining the phrase "REMEMBER THE ALAMO! REMEMBER GOLIAD! which was used by the Texas troops as a battle cry when they charged the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto April 21, 1836.
I have much more information if you are interested. I have not been able to verify all of it, but it is interesting.
The family history traces the Billingsley family back to England.Francis Billingsley came to America with his brothers James and John prior to 1649.
