I do not know who Hepsey's parents were, but I have a theory that she may not have been a Binkley but rather a Brinkley. In fact, I am not sure that she was even a Brinkley except by marriage. Her marriage to Vincent Carney shows her as Hepsy Brinkley.I have done extensive Binkley research and moderate a list that includes Binkleys from different lines all over the country. In almost every case where a Brinkley is shown as a Binkley or vice versa, it is a result of a transcription error.I have not seen Brinkley as a true variant of Binkley.I do not have access to the original marriage bond for this marriage, but the Metro Archives has transcribed her last name as Brinkley.
Another Brinkley sometimes shown as Binkley is Eli/Elijah Binkley. However, court records regarding his estate clearly show his name to have been Brinkley; and at least one of his descendants does not believe he was a Binkley. The record of his marriage to Catherine Swigert shows his name as Brinkley as does that of the widowed Catherine to John B. Demonbreun.
Hepsy is sometimes shown as Hixey, and there is a marriage record for Alexander Brinkley to Hixey Holt on 10 January 1823 in Davidson County. The bondsman was Isaac Earthman, who was also the bondsman for the marriage of Eli Brinkley to Catherine Swigart on 22 March 1830.(Isaac Earthman was the father of Nelly Earthman, who married my great-great grandfather's brother George Binkley. However, I have found nothing to connect either Alexander Brinkley or Eli Brinkley to these Binkleys.Isaac's first wife, who died before 1810, was Mary Holt; but they were most likely married in North Carolina.)It is entirely possible that Alexander Brinkley died not long after his marriage to Hixey Holt, who then married Vincent Carney.I cannot prove this. The first Alexander Brinkley that I can find in Tennessee census records was in 1830 in Carroll County. This could be the person who married Hixey Holt and who then moved. On the other hand, Hixey's husband could possibly not be in the 1830 census because he had died and she had remarried.
I do not know anything that connects Hepsey/Hixey to Henry Binkley (b. 1782) except the possibility that he was the father of Sina Paralee Binkley who married Joshua Carney. In my opinion the evidence for this is slim.In my notes I have a discussion of this by another researcher, who wrote, "It is accepted by most that the son born in 1810 was named Elijah (Eli) and that the daughter born between 1810-1815 was Sina Paralee Binkley."I have never seen this "accepted by most" unless the most included people citing this researcher.Note that this argument assumes that Elijah/Eli Brinkley was in fact a Binkley, which is questioned by a number of others, including me. (I still show Sina as Henry's daughter in my database but really need to remove her.I do not know who her father was.)
