p.39 Departed this life in York district, SC. on the 14th Aug., 1850, James H. Black, son of Joseph and Martha Black, age nineteen years and three days.
p.91 By Rev. J. E. Pressly, Dec. 3rd, Mr. H.C. Malcolm of Salisbury and Miss Judith E. Black of Cabarrus Co., NC. (I think the year is 1858)
p. 157 May 30, 1862 Died in Mecklenburg Co., NC. March 31, Mrs. Martha , wife of Samuel Black, aged 75 and twenty days. She was a native of Eastern Va. but came a young orphan into NC...(member of) Gilead... She lived with her husband for more than fifty years...Her only child, a daughter, died in the bloom of the youth. Her place was in part, supplied by orphan children of others, to whom she proved to be a mother.
