Rachel, Samuel's wife, was a daughter to Edward and Nancy Smith.Edward Smith born about the year 1754 To Richard Smith and Jane Green. They lived 16 milesfrom London on a 10-acre farm.Edward Smith was drafted into military service about 1774 and sent to America. After the war was over, he went to Virginia.He married in Mercer County, Kentucky, to Nancy Black about 1779. About 1803 he settled on a farm of serveral hundred acres near Corydon, Indiana.
Malinda (Black) Rees, daughter of Capt. Samuel & Rachel Black, Married Thomas D Rees. Came to Linn County, Kansas October 3, 1867, from Monmouth, Illinois. and purchased 180 acres of land from the goverment. Eight children were born to them.William H born may 6, 1843; Rachel Jane born May 6, 1846; John B.January 13 1848; Samuel Martin May 16, 1851; Ann Medora, February 24, 1854; Amanda Lucinda February 24,1859; Allas Fannie (Braden), January 14, 1860 andElmer Elsworth Rees Born March 4, 1862. Colonel Rees, married Allice Bowers they had one daughter Grace Rees Hinds she married and moved to Iowa. and One son (My Grandfather) William Harrison Rees Known to his family and friends as "Pop".

My Parents: John William Rees married Esther Mae McCulley January 1, 1949.They had 3 daughters Sondra, Ronda, Linda.
