Humbolt, Ill. Aug. 6.----John Wesley Black, retired farmer and big land owner, died at noon on Tuesday, at his home in this village, the hot weather having contributed to his final illiness. He had been paralized for ten years and had to use a wheel chair all of that time.

Mr. Black was born April 5, 1845, in Adams county, Ohio, and on July 2, 1867 he married Alice Piatt of that vicinity. They came to Illinois in a covered wagon, shortly after their marriage, settling on a farm two miles southeast of Humbolt.Twenty-six years ago they came to the village of Humbolt to make their home, living here continuously since. Mr. Black owned about 1,000 acres of fine farm land.

note: The children living at home in the 1930 census of the same year as this obituary range in age from the late forties to the early 60's so they were home running things for John probably.Hope this helps in your search.
