My Dad's Aunt back in the late 70's pulled some genealogy info together and she was able to go back to John Black 1758 approx in Augusta County VA and his Wife Isabell. She didn't have Isabell's last name or date of birth or where she was born. I got this info from ancestory.com
I have learned ancestory is not all that reliable. I have found several postings for John Black approx 1758 and the dates are off some and # of kids he had is off some. And there are no scanned docs to verify.
Some info say that John's sons John, Samuel, and James came to US in 1730's or so but then other info that shows they were all born in the states except the son John.
My dilema is how many John Blacks were there in 1750's in VA. I am gathering that families are shared names, so there could be a John Sr, Jr and then John Sr's brothers could have sons named John, and unless it specifies on the doc you are looking at, the John Black mentioned could be anyone!
I happen to have a copy of the Chronicles of Scotch-Irish Settlers by Lynn Chalkey and its got some great info but some of it is like reading greek. I am not understanding the Court docs.
It says that Aug 27 1751 John Black and Son Samuel Black were added to the tithables. I had to look that up. It means they were added to the tax roll. I have no idea how the tithables work and if folks were added when the reached a certain age or something.
I will keep my eyes opened for Margaret Black. Is she apart of the John Black line or one of his brothers?
