Hello,
Job Blackard appears to be the son of Charles Blackard who was listed in the Bute County NC tax lists in 1766 the year that Job was born.Job appears to have been named after Job Self. Among some colonial families, it was customary to name the second child after the mother's father.
Job Self and Willoughby Self were both neighbors of Charles Blackard in Bute/Franklin County NC and appear their names appear on many land deeds as witnesses and provers together.Job was a Self family name and there were actually 20 Job Selfs born in Virginia and North Carolina before 1800.
Furthermore, Charles posted the marriage bond for Frances Self in Bute in 1788 to Spencer Snow. Her married name was then FRANCES SNOW.It appears that Job Blackard named his daughter Frances Snow Blackard after her. Perhaps she was his cousin. After the war in 1783 Willoughby Blackard was living in Warren county next door to Spencer and Frances Snow according to the 1783 Warren County tax list.
regards,
andy blackard
P.S. You may see references to Job's father being named William but I believe this to be in error. A professional NC genealogist and I both have searched the records exhaustively and can find no William Blackard in NC before the William Blackard who was Willoughby and Job's brother.
