Re: Blacknall/Cooke/Foster families, Franklin County NC
This Mordecai Cooke, hmmm sounds like a lead to me!Oak Grove and Locust Grove are about a mile apart.Locust Grove went out of the family in the mid to late 1800's.Oak Grove, where I live, was built in 1850.They were both on the same parcel of land, which, at it's height, covered about 1200 acres in the Ingleside Community. It's now down to about 50 acres. There is a family cemetery behind Locust Grove. It is very overgrown. The current owners of Locust Grove have done a tremendous job at restoring the house, but have not done anything with the cemetery.I have an idea who some of the people buried there are, but not all.If I ever get the time and the current owners are open to the idea, I'd like to get in there to clean it off and document the graves.
Peter Stapleton Foster, b. 1787 D. 1844, owned Locust Grove and his son, P.S. Foster, b. 1823 D. 1898, owned Oak Grove, this is my Great Grandfather.
I think Thomas J. is buried in the Henderson city cemetery, Elmwood.I've been through it several times but have not found his grave.
