Thomas J. Blagg
Thomas J. Blagg, my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, immigrated to Texas in 1840 and died about 1846 in Grayson Co, TX.Don’t know from where he immigrated. He was born about 1810 – don’t know where. His wife was Sarah.
Thomas’ son Joseph was born 1836 and is found in the 1850 census of Grayson Co, Texas with his mother Sarah and brother John W.
Joseph is found in the 1860 census of Grayson Co, TX with his wife Susan (Bigbee) Blagg, son Thomas Jefferson (born AR), and daughter Sarah Elizabeth (born TX).
Can not find Joseph and his family anywhere in the 1870 census.
In the 1880 census, Susan is in Grayson Co, TX with the children.Joseph is not in the family and Susan is listed as the head of household and widow.
The obituary for Thomas Jefferson Blagg states that he was born 8 Aug 1858 at Fayetteville, Washington Co, AR .
In reviewing the Grayson County records, it appears that Joseph and family left Grayson Co, TX about 1868 and that his wife and children came back to Grayson County in 1874 according to the county tax records.(There’s also a family story about Joseph killing someone and having to leave the county because the man’s kin were after him.)
1. Thomas J. Blagg came to Texas from Arkansas in 1840.
2. Joseph Blagg, after becoming of age, went back to Arkansas where he married Susan Bigbee and where their son Thomas Jefferson was born then came back to Grayson Co, TX where he’s listed in the 1860 Grayson County census.
3. About 1868, after killing a man, Joseph had to leave Grayson County, TX so he went back to Arkansas.
4. Sometime between 1868 and 1875 Joseph either died a natural death or was killed by relatives of the man he killed so wife Susan and children came back to Grayson Co, TX where she’s shown on county tax lists and the 1880 census.
