Did John Bell Evans marry a Blakeney?
John Bell Evans married Mary(?), lived Lynch's Creek area. Estate record names children. Among them are Naomi Evans who married Nathaniel Edgeworth. Naomi Evans, born about 1790 and died Jan. 10, 1845 according to Rev. Knight's Journal.
Naomi and Nathaniel Edgeworth's grandson Charles Wesley Edgeworth always stated that his grandmother was a "Blakeney". Could he have been referring to John Bell Evans' wife Mary as having been "Blankeney"? We know that the Blakeney, James, Evans, and Edgeworths all moved to Fayette and Tuscaloosa County Alabama around 1840-50.
All were from the Chesterfield County South Carolina area.
Capt. John Blakeney, died 1832 Chesterfield Co., SC. and wife Margaret Evans had a daughter Mary. This Mary (born abt 1765) would have been the age to have married John Bell Evans. Could this be where the Blakeney "tale" originated.
John Bell Evans' widow Mary married ? McMillan around 1825. Son James Evans and wife Ruth moved to near Montgomery, AL around 1830.
Does anyone have any information or clues on these people? Any help appreciated.
