A very good book for you to get is 'The Family Blaine(Blayne)'a genealogy by Matthew Gillon Blaine, 1994.
ISBN 0-620-18460-4
Available from P.O. Box 50773,Musgrave,4062,Durban,South Africa.

It gives a full account of the links to South Africa (quite glamourous too!)as well as some background on the UK family who hail from Huntingdon in Yorkshire(as far back as we can trace so far)
Earliest clear trace is Joane Blaine (widow of an as yet unidentified Blaine/Blayney/Blane - spelling was quite arbitrary at that time!),whose son was Henry Blaine(d.6 Feb 1761,[email protected] All St.Church,Hartford)who married Barbara Burch of Market Harborough(d.21 Nov 1749, [email protected] All St. Church,Hartford).
