Amy,
There are many references that show our nameoriginates in Cumbria in Blencarn. As the people from there spread out the spelling changed to reflect the dialect of the area.
Yorkshire has BLENKHORN with some corruption to BLENK and in 1724 to BLENKIRON.
Early Cumbriahas BLENKARN.
South Lancashire has BLINKHORN as does the Midlands and East Anglia, London and Kent.
A good guide to location and spelling comes from the IGI which seems to have no entries for Wales.
The best example I can quote is John BLENKIRON (1784) from Swaledale NRY who can be found as John BLENK (bapt), John BLENKIN (marr), John BLINKHORN (child #4), John BLINKIRON ( child (#5), John BLINKIRON (d cert 1840)
Sorry to disagre,
Jim BLINKHORN
