What is your evidence that Gittel was a sister of your Leah Gottschalk – that the Zalks with whom I am working might be convinced that Gittel was originally a Gottschalk, with a name change to Lass at some point?
It is Lass on Eva Wilk's 1899 birth certificate, which is what they are going by. Incidentally, a Rev. Saul Aaron Lass from Minneapolis (along with a Rabbi Frey from Duluth) officiated at the 1898 wedding in Duluth of Eve's older sister Sarah.
Moreover there's the matter of Leah Lass Dick, Gittel's sister according to Leah's family. Max Zalk paid for Leah to come to America and she lived with them when she first came. Why would Gittel have two sisters named Leah?
It just so happens that someone emailed me today a picture of Max & Gittel Lass with their three children (Sarah, Louis, and Eva) ca 1899.
Email me at [email protected] and I will send you in reply attached images of Eva's birth certificate, the news article about Sarah's wedding, and the photo of the Max Zalk family
