Blundens in Sussex, 18th Century
I have traced my family back from Kingston Surrey to Selham & Ambersham.
I have gone as far back as 1769 Richard Blundell, (name changed to Blunden after that ), married Ann Hoick, (probably Howick) in Stedham 1769. Both were illiterate and marked the registry with a X.Richard was from Selham Parish. The family were there after the marriage and all their children were baptised in Selham. I have found that Richard was buried in 1814 aged 83 in Selham but was from Ambersham, just down the road.
I have also found out that North and South Ambersham were both originally tithings of Steep in Hampshire, and neitherhad a parish church.Until the 19th century their inhabitants wouldhave been expected to go to Steep for baptisms, marriages and burials. Can anyone help with any information on this branch of the Blunden family. I cannot trace Richard back any further.
