The Baptism records of Shoop's Lutheran and Reformed Church, Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County, PA (per Egle's Notes & Queries of Pennsylvania), show several Bobb/Pohl,etc.,families:
1780 - Conrad Bobb, son of Peter & Barbara Bobb (sponsors were Conrad Bobb and wife, Eve. 1784 - John George Bobb, son of Conrad & Eve Bobb. 1784 - Anna Barbara Elizabeth Pohl, daughter of Henry & Margaret Pohl (sponors John Gomsert & Fanny Pohl). 1784 - John Bobb, son of John and ___ Bobb (sponsors Jacob Hosinger and Fanny Poling). 1796 - Peter Bobb, son of Philip & Gertrude Bobb (sponsors Peter Bobb & wife, Barbara). 1796 - Maria Magdalena Reel, daughter of Philip & Catharine Reel (sponsors Philip Bobb and wife, Gertrude). 1797 - Eva Catharine Poop [Bobb], daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Poop (sponsors Philip Reel and wife, Catharine). 1798 - Elizabeth Bobb, daughter of Philip & Gertrude Bobb (sponsors Elizabeth Stauch).
Christopher Shoop (Schupp/Shupp/etc.), who is my ancestor, was born 1743 in Lancaster Co., PA, died 1820 in Dauphin Co., PA.He was the the grandson of Wendel Poh, who died 1768 in Derry Township, Lancaster Co./later Dauphin Co., PA. Christopher and his family also attended Shoop's Lutheran and Reformed Church.
It appears that Wendel Poh arrived at Philadelphia in 1737 on the Ship "William," identified as Wendel Bohn and Wentell Bon. Wendel's wife was Mary (probably Anna Mary or Anna Maria).I understand that b's and p's in names were often interchangeable in the 1700 and 1800's.
Was Wendel Poh/Bohn/Bon related to the above Bobb and Pohl families? How are Peter Bobb, Conrad Bobb, Henry Pohl, John Bobb, Philip Bobb, Fanny Pohl/Poling, and the Reels (in the above baptism records) related?
