Bobb Surname DNA Project
Bobb DNA Reconstruction Project
Announcing the Bobb DNA surname reconstruction project. The goal of the Study is to find other Y-DNA fingerprint matches, and confirm lineage back to a common ancestor.Once the study is underway the results will be made available in a similar format to those found at the Stewart/Stuart DNA project below www.angelfire.com/nb/stewartdna
To accomplish our goal my husband is beginning the study by having his DNA sample analyzed with a 25 marker test.We have a documented paper trail that identifies his ancestor as Nicholas Bobb of Cumberland county Pennsylvania. His will states that he died there in the early 1800’s.
The study is open to Bobbs from all parts of the United States and overseas.Any Bobb who is male and carries the Bobb bloodline would be beneficial and welcome to participate in our study.Only males carry the Y-chromosome that is used in this particular type of testing. It is passed from father to son just like the surname.
A perfect match on the 25 marker test can prove commonality of an ancestor between 7 to 30 generations.
The company who is facilitating this study for us is Family Tree DNA.They are providing a discounted rate to us because of the size of our study. The 12 marker test is $99 and the 25 marker test is $169 with $2 for shipping. If these prices sound like a lot of money to you, just consider the money that you have spend driving to cemeteries, interviews, purchasing books/computers/software, joining societies and all the other necessities for a serious genealogist (not to mention your time) and if you are like me, this price begins to look like a bargain. You not only may find matches, but you will also be able to eliminate some of the lines that you have been suspicious may be yours and in reality are not.
I may be contacted at [email protected] with any questions that are not answered at the Stewart/Stuart website for those of you who are interested in becoming participants or recruiting others in your family to take the test.
