Re: William Boggs b.1704 IRE to DE 1716 to Washington Co PA
I was delighted to find this series of posts, Bonnie, about a Boggs--Marshall connection involving Cross Creek, Washington County, Pennsylvania. This will seem somewhat convoluted, but here goes:
I am searching for the family of my ancestor John Marshall (about 1761-1806) who had either a brother or a cousin named Joseph Marshall (1767-1835) in St. Clairsville, Belmont County, Ohio--just west of Cross Creek. Please see this URL: http://one-huge-family.com/id2.htmlhttp://one-huge-family.com/id2.html --and then click on the "1807 Guardianship Bond" link. There you'll see that John Marshall's orphaned sons Andrew, Samuel and John came under the guardianship of Joseph Marshall and John Patterson in St. Clairsville; and ALEXANDER BOGGS and Moses Morehead joined Marshall and Patterson in posting a bond of $1000 per child to guarantee that the terms of the guardianship would be carried out. A question: were BOGGS, Patterson and/or Moorhead uncles of these boys--perhaps married to a sister of John and Joseph Marshall?
To further frustrate and complicate, just a few miles north of St. Clairsville is the grave of Thomas Marshall, whose family had roots in Cross Creek. His daughter Sarah Marshall (1787-1849) married John Boggs (1782-1848) and some of their sons had "Marshall" as a middle name. I believe the parents of this John Boggs were James Boggs and Sarah Brown.
All of this (thanks for your patience) to ask if you or others can see anything familiar here, which might link "my" John Marshall or his brother/cousin Joseph Marshall to your Boggs family--or to the Marshalls of Cross Creek, Washington Co. PA?
My sincere appreciation for any help!
