Nicholas Boleboh & Matthew Billpaugh, 1800 Rowan Co N.C.

By Jean Holt February 17, 2004 at 09:20:02

Was this Nicholas BOLEBOHa "brother" to Matthew BILLPAUGH?

Some of the Census spellings of this name were Boleboh, Billpaugh, Bolypaw, Bolypau, Bolybaugh, Bolypaugh, Bollepaw, and Balapan.

Using Ancestry's 1800 Rowan Co. N.C. Census...Nicholas was in the age category 26 under 45 yrs...his wife was in 16 under 26 age category and a female child under age 10.

However...Matthew was listed as "Billpaugh"....and using the census provided OnLine by Ancestry... his 1800 Census page is listed as being in STOKES COUNTY.
YET...it 'seems'... that his census being placed in Stokes County was an ERROR...
for at least one other man on the same census page in 1800... was in Rowan County in 1810.Matthew is 'not' in the original Census pages of Rowan County in 1810 nor in 1820.

If anyone can confirm how Matthew is listed in the 1800 Census Index (Library) 'Book'... I would appreciate knowing that.

In 1800, Matthew Billpaugh (Bolypaw) was single and his age was in the category 26 under 45 yrs. It could be the age of Matthew and Nicholas were only a few years apart?By that time Nicholas had a daughter under age 10.With Nicholas being married, (and having a young daughter) it seems he was the older?

Can anyone give me information about both these men? It will be appreciated.
Jean
