Re: Martha Lucinda Matilda Bowling Venable Wilkes NC
Michelle, I don't know if this will help, but I took a quick look at THE BOLLING, BOWLING, BOLEN FAMILY IN AMERICA BEFORE 1800 (Todd Bolen & Lois Bolen Stange). This two volume work is an essential reference tool.Basically it presents information about these families collected by and submitted to the editors. It is important to note, however, that the editors make no warranty about or evaluation of the quality of the information they've printed. But they've "sourced" everything and have provided an excellent starting point for researchers.
On page 5 of Volume 2 there is an Andrew Lucius Bowling, 1783-1832, son of Justice Bowling, who married Temperence Johnson (1781-1864).Among the children listed is a Lucia "Lucy" (1808-1863) who married Merritt Venable.Lucia's siblings, according to one source, were Rebecka Ann, William Edwins (died young), Andrew Jr., James Madison, Thomas, Rhody Elizabeth, Eli Callaway and Samuel A. Johnson.
Again, the above should be viewed with caution.I recommend you contact Todd Bolen if you wish to purchase the two volumes.I have a 1997 edition so I don't know if I have the correct address - you might try Google or the Bolling Family Association.Fred
PS: Two sources differ on the father of Justice Bowling. One says Benjamin and the other Jarred. In either case there's no Pocahontas connection.
