Benjamin Elliot Boling; Eliot Boling; Ellet Boling-b. 1755 and d. 1844
I'll go ahead and start by asking for forgiveness if anything I am asking here is buried somewhere in all the massive wealth of both good and bad information you can find about our families on the internet.
That said, I am recently new to looking into my ancestry and have delved off into multiple sources on the internet to try and trace my ancestors. It all started with a school project for two of my boys in elementary school about their heritage. My obvious first choice of information was to ask my Dad. He proceeded to tell me the things he knew off the top of his head and he later emailed me a ancestry.com family tree that showed a connection to Pocahontas and the less commercialized, but certainly in some ways, a true savior of America - John Rolfe.
Wow! This fascinated me as it probably would anyone. So I had to find out more and after weeks of my initial investigation I am stuck...Stuck for 1)What I got from my Dad showed the connection to Rolfe and Matoaka marriage through the mythical William Bolling and Amelia Randolph - which has led me to here (among what seems a hundred other places with as many stories about them) and 2) I can only pretty accurately go back as far as my 5th Great Grand Father with a few different names: Benjamin Elliot Boling; Eliot Boling; Ellet Boling - All being the same person born in Henrico, VA abt 1755 and d. 1844 in Greenville, SC.
As I stated, I am new to tracking down ancestry - I have been on ancestry website (which seems to be so congested with people wanting to make that connection to Pocahontas - it is hard to know what is good or bad information), found the BFA website with the DNA project (of which I think I probably fall into group 6 but really have a hard time following), this site and may other places trying to go back even further.
Would any of you be kind enough to share any information about my above mentioned ancestor or any other advise?
Thanks,
Chris Bowling
