As for the other Bondays...as luck would have it, 9 times out of 10 the Baltimore City Directory listing for "Bonday" appears on the same page as "Bonhage".And since I've been collecting the Bonhage BCD listings, I also have most of the Bonday listings, too.
Bonday appears in the BCD as early as 1864. (Bonday, Jame Jr., wharfinger, Gibson's whf.)There is anoter listing in 1864 for "Bonday, James, (B & Thurlow), wharfinger, 273 S. Ann, dw 220 E. Baltimore)".And also:"Bonday & Thurlow, oak coppers, 111 Thames".(I believe these streets are all now in the fashionable neighborhood of Fells Point!)
By 1880, the listings have expanded, and it's now (in bold print) "BONDAY JAMES, JR. & CO. (Jas. Bonday, jr) salt, office 58 South and Gibson's whr."There is also:"Bonday Jas SR. oak cooper (barrel) and wharfinger, Corner's whf, 111 Thames, dw 187 Gough".(Other Bondays in 1880:Charles a clerk, Frederick W. a clerk, John H. a cigarmaker, and William W. a clerk.Frederick, John, and William all live at 187 Gough.)
By 1905, James Jr. is listed as:
Bonday, James Jr & Co (James L. Sellman) Importers Salt, Kainit and Sylvinite, Merchant's National Bank Bldg, Temp Loc, 12 W. Camden.(Does this mean James Jr is dead?As early as 1900, the company is listed with the names James L. Sellman and Charles E. Bonday. but not specifically James Jr.I don't have listings between 1880 and 1900.)
J. Randolph is listed as clerk on 2101 Callow Ave in 1905
1928: Frederick W is married to Mary E., living at 739 E. 21 st. J. Randolph married Edith and is living at 2101 Callow Ave. (his second wife?) William is not married, living at 905 Hillen. James Jr. is listed as: "Jas Jr. & Co (Jas S. Selman) salt 222 e Balto 7th floor".
Hope this helps you.If/when I come across more Bonday info, I'll send it along.
