Dear Joe,
I've not worked on Jeffrey Davis, but I have done some research on Lucy and think she may have been Lucy Susannah or vice versa.I have her b. 1756/1758 Cumberland Co., VA d. 1849 Powhatan Co., VA.In her father's will written in 1803, she is listed as Lucy Landrum. In the will records of Cumberland Co., VA I found that a Sukey and Hawkins Landrum witnessed a will in 1772, but Gene Pool Individual Records shows that Susannah Roper, daug. of John Roper, m. Hawkins Landrum.Hawkins Landrum's will dated 19 Jul 1802 is recorded in Chesterfield Co., VA.The point is that Lucy apparently was married to a Landrum before she married Davis, but it doesn't look as if Hawkins was the Landrum. We know that Lucy was identified as the widow of Jeffrey in the 1830 Radford chancery suit.I have seen lists of children for Jeffrey and Lucy, but if she was still a Landrum in 1803, she was 45 or so years old before they married.Several of the birthdates of these Davis children are pre-1803.My working hypothesis at the moment is that most of these children belong to a previous wife although I suppose it is possible that they were Landrum children given the Davis name after the remarriage. The point is that all of this really needs some close scrutiny.I have seen some data that seems to indicate that Lucy married Davis first and then Landrum, which I suppose is possible (the chanery suit almost muddies the waters because it names a number of people who were already dead, so I suppose it could use Lucy's first husband's name, but since she appeared in court, I'd think they would have that right).Perhaps the folks who posted data to Family Search (shown in the other response you received) can help straighten this out.If you get some answers, I'd be interested in hearing the explanations.
