Dear Amy, I, too, would be very interested in information about the Bondurants who are buried in your vicinity.Your branch of the family has taken a lot of time to work out, but I think I can help get you unstuck, although I certainly don't know much about the circumstances that surround some of the events.Your great-grandfather Albert appeared in the 1920 and 1920 censuses in Jackson Co., OH.He also registered for the WW I draft in that county. In 1900 he apparently was living with his mother Mary in the household of his grandparents Peter and Sarah Seel in Oak Hill, Jackson Co., OH.Albert had 2 sisters - Orilla b. abt Aug 1883 and Maud b. abt Oct 1885, but I don't have any more information about them.Albert's father was John William Bondurant b. 17 May 1858 OH d. 7 Jun 1936 St. Tammany Parish, LA, buried Pierce Cem., St. Tammany Parish, LA.He and Mary married 3 Jul 1880.John William married Josie Mahon 5 Dec 1888 in Etowah Co., AL.Josie was b. Mar 1866 in GA.You can find them in the 1900 census in Perry Co., MS, 1910 in Lamar Co., MS, 1920 in St. Tammany, LA, and 1930 Washington Parish, LA.In all of these records, he is listed as J. W. or John W. or just John.It appears from all of the records that John and Josie had no children.John William Bondurant was the son of Isham H. Bondurant b. 9 May 1836 OH d. 5 Jun or Jul 1920 Cleburne Co., AL.His wife was America Grounds b. 25 Feb 1840 OH d. 3 or 5 Jan 1927 Cleburne Co., AL.They married 28 May 1857 in Jackson Co., OH.Both are buried in the Upper Cane Creek Congregational Methodist Church Cem., Cleburne Co., AL.They had 2 other children besides John William - Alice and Norma.I have some additional information about both of them.Isham Bondurant was the son of Joseph Bondurant b. 1808/1814 NC d. 1850/1860 OH, probably Vinton Co. Joseph's wife was Julianne Burtholf b. abt 1815 NY d. aft 1870. They married 5 Mar 1836 in Gallia Co., OH.They had 6 children, but I have not had much success in tracking them down.Julianne married again in 1856 or 1857 Nathan Thomas b. 1791 in DC or Charles Co., MD d. 23 Mar 1877 Vinton Co., OH.There is some evidence that Nathan had been married previously and had children by his first wife, but I don't think he and Julianne had children.Joseph Bondurant was the son of Drury Bondurant b. 1773 VA d. 1838 Jackson Co., OH.No one has yet been able to find the name of his spouse. If there are any clues in the Fairmont Cem., I would really like to hear about them.Drury appears to have had 8 children, most of whom have been traced by several researchers. It is my understanding that one descendant has a letter which verifies that Drury Bondurant was the son of Richard Bondurant Sr. b. 22 Aug 1740 King William Parish, Goochland Co., VA d. 1801/1809 possibly in Buckingham Co., VA.The word is that his wife was Cecilia Ann Hall b. 1741 Chesterfield Co., VA d. 1774/1829, but I have never seen any proof of this marriage.I'm very interested in this group because it is my line of descent, as far as I can determine at this point although I come through a different son of Richard. The big question remains - was Richard the son of John or Peter? There is general agreement that Richard was probably the grandson of Jean Pierre, the original immigrant, but there is no confirmed evidence to prove who Richard's father was. It's a puzzle just waiting to be further investigated if not solved.I hope this is helpful. Please do let me know if you find any info. on the Bondurants in Jackson Co. and/or the nearby areas.
