Re: Solomon Bortz (1793-1860) Macungie Pa
I just found out recently that Solomon was my 4th great-grandfather.I am descended from his second son, Nathan.
My listing of his children includes:
Owen1/5/1820-12/20/1891m. Hannah Wenner
Nathan11/10/1822-5/7/1890m. Sarah Kemmerer m. Esther Detweiler
Jonas 4/22/1826-5/11/1897m.Helena Wetzel
Benneville1832-aft 1880m.Camilla Elmira Scheid
Fianna2/11/1836-12/16/1901m.Benjamin Paulus Dornblaser
I have been trying to find a record of Solomon's birth but have had no luck yet.
My suspicion is that he was a son of J. Adam and Anna (possibly Witmeier) Bortz who can be found in Upper Milford and Lower Macungie Twps.Solomon fits easily in between other known children in that family and in one of the earlier 1800 censuses, he and J. Adam were both living in Lower Macungie Twp.The known children of Adam and Anna were baptized at Zionsville Lutheran and Oley Reformed Churches. J. Adam was born and baptized in 1764 at Zion Lehigh Church in Lower Macungie Twp.His parents were George Adam and Maria Barbara Margaretha Bortz.
Solomon and Anna Maria are buried in the Longswamp Union Church Cemetery in Berks Co., PA
