Noticed your post today and figured you may want to post this to the BOSTWICK and BOSTIC site as well for good measure.

Why??While over the years of working my wife`s maternal line of BOSTWICK for whatever the reason not readily known for fact some of this family shows up in the official records as BOSTIK to BOSTWICK with similar changes along the way up to 1870.Her line left NC to SC and later to GA during the 1780`s to 1810,

This led me to include a study of BOSTIC(K) to be sure these folks in the area were part of what I was following in those early years. The history in those states was very enlighting to say the least.

My view of the records of the folks I was following was complicated by the "recorder" of that day seems to have the notion to drop the K when they penned BOSTIC.Worse still you would find the name as BOSTIK because the "recorder" dismissed the double sound of CK possible took up to much space.

If that did not put road blocks in your face you find the field sheets of the census taker on site; the recorders sheets in the marshall`s office, and the state copies made later, and finally the federal district court sheets.....IF you were lucky to find any of them.It was rare indeed to fing the family surname correctly written all the way to the federal court sheets submitted to Congress in those early days.

Then you have the family itself who changed which side of the fence they were on when the heavy hand of the British troops prevailed against all. They would drop the W from BOSTWICK or the AU from BAUSTWICKE and so forth.

Penmanship in the early years was something else that folks after 1900 could not cleary understand much less interpret.
Thus you may be able to help yourself by reaching out to the other spellings found in the records due to careless, premeditated, willfull, or the usual "what to hell" mood any of them were in at the time aong those old dusty trails of yeaterday.

There may be one or several folks following trails in your direction and have a ton of data to add to all those lines you mention. And they have no idea that they are so close to you and they are against a wall because someone in the past is NOT recorded as you know them.

Robert, that MANER is also a pip.Good luck with your research. You folks are doing a fine job.Keep up the good work.
