Over the years I have learned that sometimes the "official recorder" wrote the surname as they understood it.

But, as time goes by I have learned that when the name changed it was for personal reasons that I will not discuss here.
They did drop the "k" or added the "w" to make a social distinction from the other relatives for their own reasons.
It seems the families had or found some turmoil to deal with when they arrived in GA or were passing through GA.
Anywho, it is wise to look at both spellings just in case so you will not miss any of them because they had a falling out with the other folks.
