Dear Henri,
My husband's family immigrated to America from Norway in the early 1920's.(actually his grandfather was born in Minnesota in the 1890's but the family then returned to Norway.)As I understand it the name was prounounced "Bersos" but was actually spelled "Beras" with 2 dots over the "a".They Americanized it when they came through immigration because it would have been pronounced
as a humorous but inappropriate word in English, which would have been funny but would have gotten old very quickly! This bit of family history has been enjoyed by several generations of Bersos descendants! Good luck on your search for Bersos, Bersoux and others!
