I have just returned from a genealogy trip to New Brunswick, Canada, and to Aroostook County in Maine, USA.I went to the cemetery in Oxbow, Maine, where Mary Ann Botting and her husband Thomas Fleming are buried, along with several of their children.I also visited the small family plot where Mary Ann's parents, William and Frances (Routh) Botting are buried.I have pictures of all the monuments. Best of all, I have a picture of Mary Ann, which my uncle discovered in a box of old family photes. She is a formidable looking woman! There is a strong family resemblance to her daughter Gertrude (who is my great-grandmother) of whom we have photos at all ages.
The cemetery stone says: Thomas Fleming 1822-1904 Mary A. his wife 1839-1910
William Botting Frances R. his wife Died Aug. 10, 1891 AE. 70 years, 4 months, & 21 days
I have also been doing some checking of census and vital records at the Maine Historical Society in Portland, Maine, to verify some of the birth and death dates of Mary Ann's children.More on that later.
