Re: More about these Bowens
Mary was David Bowen's second wife. His first wife, Matilda Winsor, died some time after March 1839 when their tenth child, George W. Bowen, was born in Tioga county, PA.
"George W. Bowen was born in Farmington township, Tioga county, PA, March 4, 1839, a son of David and Matilda (Winsor) Bowen, formerly of Rhode Island. From the age of two years, he was reared in the family of Peter Mourey of Farmington with whom he remained working on the farm until his majority."p. 824, Chapter 60, Part 3, History of Tioga County, PA.R.C. Brown and Co., 1897
David left Pennsylvania with some of the younger children and settled in Great Valley, Cattaraugus, NY.
When you look at the 1850 census, notice that two of the children, Catherine and Martin, were born in PA.They are children of David and Matilda.I don't know what happened to Catherine either, but I do know that Martin is found in the 1860 census living with his brother Isaac in Cameron county, PA.
It is very possible that David met Mary Esther in Great Valley, as she was born in NY.They both died in Tama county, IA.
