John Byars, Jr., was born to Capt. John Byars and Elizabeth Thomasson on November 12, 1764, in Louisa County, Virginia.He died on Monday, November 1, 1819, at nine o'clock in the evening at Lynchburg, Virginia, when he was almost 55 years of age. John was married to Nancy Agnes Bowen on March 17, 1791, by Nicholas Reagan (Minister) in Washington County, Virginia.Nancy Agnes was the daughter of Capt. Arthur Bowen and Mary McMurray, being born on August 15, 1772, In Louisa County, Virginia.She died on Sunday, July 13, 1845, at eight o'clock in the evening in Smyth County, Virginia, when she was almost 73 years of age. John moved to Washington County in 1789 when other members of the family also migrated there.He purchased 167 acres on the waters of the Middle Fork of Holston River in Washington County from Isaac Rosman and his wife Mary on September 6, 1797.The witnesses were Frederick Ickes, Jacob Blessing, Arthur Bowen(her father) and Stephen Hopkins.
