Betty,
Our problem is that we do not know Walter's father or any other family members.Walter was born about 1773. Bought farm in Truxton, NY 6-16-1807 from Mrs. Coyler (Liber G Page 208/209 Syracuse Court House.)This was 1 year before Cortland Co included this area.(Listed in 1810 census in the town of Truxton. Must be son Walter.)
Listed in 1800 Co of Albany census.
part of estate lands Lot 77 Truxton (now Cuyler) Cortland Co.He died in 1809 in Cuyler Co, NY.His wife's name was Jemina Hallenbeck who was born in Greene Co, NY. Daughter of Jan and Maria Van Buskirk Hallenbeck. Walter died leaving children:Jane (Jemina) married Oliver Perkins, Clarissa married 1st Ashael Webster and 2nd Roswell Richmond, Mary married Gilbert Brown, Walter married Sophena Crandall (my ancestors), Peter married Lavina Woodruff, and Hannah married Ambrose Kellogg.Walter's widow married 2nd John Brown and they had additional children. My father has been on the farm that Walter owned which was known as the "Brown Farm". in Cuyler County, NY.I have some files on the main Slingerland family which is descended from Teunis Slingerland which I have been trying to tie into and see if I can find a Stephen in the approximate time period for you.Walter Jr. took his wife and first son, David to Almond Twp, Allegany County, NY about 1826.
Becky
