My name is Aaron John Boyd. I am a descendant of Isaac Newton Boyd, Jr.
In your post, you mention you are trying to find out info about Hugh's parents. A grandson of Isaac Newton Boyd, Jr., Isaac Cleveland Boyd (b.3 Nov 1884, d. Jan 1969) wrote his recollection of the Boyd family tree. Included in it is some mention of the origin of Hugh Boyd.
I.C. Boyd wrote as follows:
"There were four brothers who came to the New Country, which is now the U.S.A., by the name of Boyd, from Scotland. They settled in Boston, Massachusetts.
The only Boyd I have any record of from the Old Country was Sir Robert Boyd, who was a member of the House of Lords of England. As above mentioned the four brothers married and reared in Massachusetts and their children migrated in all directions from Boston. I will only mention those that came South and West. A man by the name of James Boyd settled in Maryland near Rising Sun, and the records show that he owned a farm there, then moving to Richmond, Virginia.
A man by the name of Boyd was in business in Richmond and was President of the State Planters Bank. My Father, E. K. Boyd, did business with that bank when he was Treasurer of Buchanan
Then later I was a member of the General Assembly of Virginia. I served with a Boyd from Lynchburg, Virginia, whose name was Therman.
Allen Boyd is now a member of the Cabinet of the President of the United States.
Sen. Wilbur Boyd is now a Senator of the State of Florida.
My Great Great Grandad was Hugh Boyd.
Isaac Boyd was my Great Grandad.
Isaac Newton Boyd, my Grandfather, was a Col. in the War between the States, a minister of the Methodist Church and lived in Buchanan County, Virginia. His father, Isaac, came to Virginia from North Carolina. He had six sons and two daughters. His wife was Nancy Duty. Their sons were Elihu K. Boyd, F.M.F. Boyd, Eligah F. Boyd, Rev. H.M. Boyd, E.M. Boyd, and Dr. J.D. Boyd. Their girls were Catherine O. and Mary E. Boyd, both married Looney's.
Now E.K. Boyd was my father and my mother was Rachel Jackson, daughter of Harve Jackson whose mother was Nancy McGlothin of Tazewell County, Virginia.
My Great Grandmother Boyd was a McGee from North Carolina.
At this time, 1968, my brothers are passed away. My sister, Rachel Boyd or McFadden, is still living in Maryland.
My last wife is Ethel Gertrude Boyd of Christiansburg, Virginia. Her mother was a Christmon.
My brother, B.M. Boyd, had ten children, which I will not try to name.
My brother, Roland R. Boyd, had six children. He was married twice, no children by the first marriage, his last wife was Rosa Deel from Dickson County.
My brother, E. R. Boyd, married Ella Lichlighter, from Woodstock, Virginia. No children was born to this marriage.
My sister, Rachel, married J. Henry McFadden and they had I believe 12 children.
I was married twice having four children by my first wife Mary R., Leah C., Effie E. and Rosa. Effie and Mary are both dead at this writing.
There were seven children to the last marriage - Ileen B. Breeding, Alice Cutler, Roanoke, Virginia, Mildred B. Slate at Holden, West Virginia; I.C. Boyd, Jr., now dead and Helen Meade of Honaker, Virginia. Then Betty B. King of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Ann B. Worley of Sarasota, Florida.
This was written by I.C. Boyd, February 2,1968."
It's not much, but it is something interesting anyways.
