BOYERS and related surnames

By David Murray June 07, 2002 at 07:07:40

I wonder if there are on the forum any experts on the origins of the Boyers surname. In my explorations of the name I have come across:

Boyers
Boyer (without the 's')
Boyes (without the 'r')
Bowyer
Bowyers

I suspect that in some cases these are quite distinct surnames. but sometimes they may be variant spellings based on the same original name.Has anyone on the forum looked into this in any depth?

- David Murray -
Blackburn, England.
(Descended from Boyers of south Lincolnshire - who in the 1840s migrated first to North Yorkshire and then around 1870 to Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire - all of this in England).
