Re: John William Braddy
John William Braddy is my ggg grandpa. According to information I've found, he was born about 1832 in Bartholomew County, Indiana. Don't know his parents, but have found him and his younger brother William H in the 1850 Bartholomew County census. They were living with George W Evans and his wife Nancy Brady (as is appears on their marriage license) Evans. If you look at that 1870 census for Johnson County, Indiana you'll see a Nancy Cox listed right above James Braddy. Nancy is none other than Mrs. Nancy Braddy Evans Cox. George died in 1858 and she remarried a William Cox in 1865 Johnson County, Indiana. George and Nancy's son Charles fought for company A, 93rd Indiana Infantry in the Civil War and died in 1863. I'm waiting on his pension file from the National Archives and hope that it has info that answers some questions.
I believe Nancy and James were John's aunt and uncle. My main reason for this relationship and not that James is his father is this. James married Sarah Hankins in 1833 in either Bartholomew or Johnson County, Indiana. Assuming they married and then began a family then that means John isn't his son as the year of John's birth can be definatively established as 1832 from his tombstone. James and Nancy were born about 1811 or 1812 in North Carolina. I'm still trying to find leads as to which county.
