Re: ALL BRAIDWOODS CAME FROM SCOTLAND
Hi, my name is Matt and I am a Junior at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, VA ( USA ). I had a biography to do on "The Braidwood Family- Thomas Braidwood 1715-1806 & his one grandson John Braidwood ( also Thomas Braidwood's nephew Joseph Watson ) for my Sign Language class. I had learned that Thomas Braidwood ( 1715-1806 ) had opened the first private academy for the Deaf in Edinburgh. The school later moved to Hackney, in London, England. I have not been able to find much more on his spouse, family life, or much more on the school. I also learned that his nephew, Joseph Watson, had also helped with the school.
His grandson, one of the John Braidwood's also attempted to open a School for the Deaf in Philadelphia, PA; Baltimore, MD;Richmond, VA; and also in 1812 Cobbs, VA. They basically taught the rich, hard of hearing pupils. I hope this may have helped you and I both out. Thank you.
