Brainard/Brainerd in Kennebec County, Maine

By Kendal Cross June 06, 2007 at 05:24:34

My line is 1 Daniel, 2 James, 3 James, 4 Benjamin, 5 Reuben, 6 Asahel, 7 Augustus, 8 Annie (Annie married Kelsey Cross), 9 John Sanders Cross, 10 Donald, 11 Mark, 12 Kendal (me, female). I am working on making a file with all the descendants of Daniel (1641-1715). If you want to contribute your family tree, please do so.

Also, I am specifically seeking information on my ancestor Asahel's children and further descendants. Asahel was b. 2/18/1797 in Winthrop, ME and died sometime after 1870 in Kennebec Co., ME. Circa 1824 he married Nancy Johnson, born circa 1804 and died after 1880. Her parents are unknown. Their children include Augustus W. (my line: complete), Mary Ann (12/25/1828 Readfield, ME - ???), Franklin E. (7/27/1832 Readfield, ME - aft 1910), Malvina E. (12/1/1834 Readfield, ME - ???), Octavus Asahel (11/4/1839 Readfield, ME - ???), and Ella Frances (9/21/1846 Readfield, ME - ???). I found Franklin in a few Census Records. Circa 1852 he married a woman named Clarinda, born Oct 1830 and died aft 1910. They had 3 known children: Ruth A. (Circa 1852 Readfield, ME - 5/23/1923 Winthrop, ME), Edward (Circa 1854 - ???), and Eugene (Circa 1857 - ???). Ruth married John Greenleaf Yeaton on 6/14/1876 in Belgrade, ME. He was born 12/1847 Belgrade, ME and died 12/2/1918 Winthrop, ME. They had one known daughter named Edna, born Aug 1879 Belgrade, ME and died 6/2/1891 Winthrop, ME.

I have no further information on the children and further descendants of Asahel. If anyone can fill in the gaps I would REALLY appreciate it. I've been researching my family for almost 3 years now and still can't find anything on my closest Brainard/Brainerd cousins.

My line can definitively say that our surname was BrainARD instead of BrainERD by the time Asahel appeared in the 1830 Census as a head of house. So when helping me on this keep that in mind. Thanks everyone.
