Re: Elizabeth Braithwaite update
I now have some more evidence about who William was - although it's not conclusive (the solution would be in a couple of parish registers that I won't be able to get at until I next visit Cumbria). I suspect he was the husband of Mary Allen who had 2 children in Kendal: Miles in 1813 & Mary Jane in 1815. I haven't traced a marriage yet. Mary Jane could therefore be the 25-year-old Jane in the 1841 census; the 1813 Miles (Myles?) could have died young & thus the 1829 Myles could have been named after him (I have seen this happen several times in my research). Mary was the daughter of a Jane (Allan) of Kendal & that's all I know about her. William is most probably the son of Joseph B. & Isabel Johnson of Kirkby Lonsdale born in 1781. This is all still speculative but it fits the known facts; as & when I find out more I will post updates.
