John Brakefield of Colbert, Washington is celebrating his 100th birthday today.He was born August 11, 1912 in Willard, Montana.He and his wife are longtime residents of Colbert.Brakefield met his wife Helen Dean, at Church Youth Group.They were married in 1939.Brakefield worked for 30 years at the Great Northern Railroad, Western Fruit division,repairing boxcars.He also worked as a refrigeration mechanic for many years.He has always enjoyed his farm.Brakefield credits his long and healthy life to his faith in God, church attendance, family, hard work and farming.When asked what has been his most memorable moment in the past 100 years, Brakefield mentioned World War II, the Depression and changes in automobiles.Brakefield's Children and Spouses are: Nancy and Ralph Fifer, Spokane, WA., John and Karen Brakefield, Missoula, Montana, David and Patty Brakefield Colbert, Washington, and Ken and Sue Brakefield of Minneapolis, Minnesota.He also has 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
