Braley family Bible
I'm trying to get some old Bibles into the right hands so I check ebay once in a while and then check the forums. I saw this Bible on ebay today with some family information in it and thought one of you should have it. Here's the description, the link follows:
"Up for auction is a large leatherbound antique ENGLISH VERSION OF THE POLYGLOTT BIBLE Containing the OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS, with THE MARGINAL READINGS, and a FULL AND ORIGINAL SELECTION OF REFERENCES TO PARALLEL AND ILLUSTRATIVE PASSAGES Arranged in a Manner Heretofore Unattempted
with a critical introduction by Rev. Joseph A. Warne, and essays and sermons by James Macknight D.D., and Philip Doddridge, D.D. and a concordance by Rev. J. Brown. Published in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1834 by Fessenden & Co. An old family bible with a lavishly illustrated and tissue-protected section between the Old and New Testaments for family information. Only one page filled in, and seems to have been just for the nuclear family of the Hon. Alvin Braley and Lucy Hutchinson. They had just four children, three of whom died before they did - two young boys died in their first year, and their only daughter died at age 14. A George Braley appears to have survived them. A beautifully illustrated Bible with many plates. Bible is in poor condition, mainly because of heavy water damage which has resulted in mold and water spotting to the leather boards and pages. Despite damage, volume is still quite attractive. Very thick. Happy bidding!"
I don't have any financial interest in any of these, I just hate to see treasures like this in hands other than family. Hope this helps!
